About
Us
The
Badra story began in 1943, when the family concern of Badra Estates and
Industries Ltd first started to cultivate some of India's best shade-grown
estate coffees. Ours is more than a mere 56 yearlong history. It's a story
of a heritage of care and traditional methods, a respect for the land
and the people who work it, a heritage that is strengthened by the best
in today's post-harvest technology and customer servicing. This precise,
precious harmony of tradition and modernity, nature and knowhow what makes
every cup of Badra so special.
Badra
estate crop is available direct to you, for you to enjoy in all it's shade-grown,
hand-picked, sun-dried flavour, a flavour deriving from the traditional
methods of cultivation, from the richeness and fertility of our plantations,
their lush, tropical climate and unparalleled highland location.
Our plantations
are located in the westerns Ghats, which is home to the Bababudangiri
hills the backbone for Indian coffee industry and is located in the southern
peninsula of India. Karnataka accounts for 60% of the total coffee production
in India, fittingly so with the Bababudangiri Hills being the birthplace
of Indian Coffee and the rest of South India (Kerala,Tamil Nadu) complements
40% of the coffee production. Our coffee estates are located in Chikmangalur
District (in the Bababudangiri Hills) where legend has it that the sage
Baba-u-Budan first planted a few coffee seeds which he had brought back
after his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1670 A.D.
Our
plantation company, comprises three estates that occupy an area of 1530
acres with an additional200acres of rubber. They are situated at elevations
of 2500- 3600 feet where the annual rainfall received ranges between 70
- 130 inches. All the Estates have intercrops growing along with the coffee
that act as excellent shade varieties and also augment our production.
The gross annual production of Coffee from our estates amounts to 750-850
tons of which 650 tons consist of washed Arabicas and Robustas and the
remnant being Cherry coffees. 55% of this gross is exported. The estates
also boast of a produce about 20 tons of pepper and 30 tons of arecanut.
